Our adventure together started the weekend before the Labour Day long weekend 2013.
My cousin Nicole wanted to introduce me to a co-worker of hers that she thought I would hit it off with. So when she saw an opportunity for me to meet him, she invited me to a party that her co-worker was putting on. When I arrived with her I met the fellow whom she wanted me to met, however...it was not a success. But, I didnt want to waste a night, so I stuck around and started to introduce myself to others at the party. As I made my way round, I came across a tall handsome guy named Craig, started talking to him and the rest is history.
I was invited along with some other co-workers to one of my colleagues places to hang out and enjoy a Saturday night in downtown Calgary. After arriving downtown I was introduced to a couple new happy faces. One of them was an extra smiley curly haired beauty named Camille who of course was sitting next to some deep fried shrimp appies, it was too good to be true! It didn't take long for me to realize that she was the one.
Fast forward - End of August 2016
After many travel adventures with one another we decided to plan our biggest adventure yet - Peru and Easter Island! We were both super excited about our hiking trip to Machu Picchu, our adventures to Easter island and a visit with Camille's friend Kristi in the high Amazon.
It was our second day in Peru and we went to visit Sacsayhuaman, one of the most amazing feats of Inca architecture in the Cusco area. We had dinner at a small Italian restaurant named Incanto where we tried some of the local delicacies. And upon returning to our room that evening Craig proposed on the third anniversary of our first meeting with a heartfelt poem and a very special ring pop. What says I want to be with you for the rest of my life more than a cherry ring pop?!
I started my adventure on this earth in the great city of Calgary, nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Unlike Camille's story, I spent my childhood in many different locations that helped to shape me into the person I am today.
My journey started in Calgary with my parents Darrell and Joy Banks. Before much time had elapsed we moved our small family to BC where added one more, my extremely talented and creative sister Erin. Then made our way back through Calgary once again where we were joined by my curious and passionate brother Kyle. From there we went to Winnipeg Manitoba where I was first introduced to my passion for sports. Living in a city like Winnipeg offered me the chance to nurture my love of sports through my involvement with local teams and other kids my age. It was here that my passion for Hockey, Baseball and Football began. During a family road trip from Winnipeg to Disney World Orlando at the age of nine I was introduced to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For any of you that know me well, I have been a die-hard Bucs fan ever since, from the lows to the Super Bowl winning highs!
After 'graduating' from Elementary in Winnipeg we moved back to Calgary where my passion for the city and its local sports teams really took off. I think I was always a Flames fan at heart, but being back in the city only helped kindle that fire inside grow. Calgary is also where my love for golf began - notice the sports theme here? Camille was quickly introduced to my love of Sports, and though she is only a minor fan, she allows me to buy her team gear and helps out when I explain to her that she is a lucky charm when she wears the gear haha
After a few years of living in Calgary we moved out to White Rock BC, where I graduated from Semiahmoo Secondary before attending UBC. I spent 5 years in UBC before starting my career as a Geotechnical Engineer. After a couple of years I decided to take on a big adventure that involved moving my life overseas to the ancestral homeland that brought us our loving mother Joy. I wanted to experience Scotland and immerse myself, so I completed my Masters of Science in Aberdeen, and while on my off-time ventured here and there to see all what Scotland had to offer. I had always felt a connection and I still do to this day. It was a great learning experience and prepared me to go out into the world and take on that next great adventure.
Fortunately for me only a few years after returning to Calgary I found my next great adventure, Ms. Camille Elizabeth Wilder. We share many similar passions and for that I am grateful that we found each other. I look forward to spending a long and happy life together that is filled with travels, tiny homes and many many furry puppy dogs.
And no Camille, I have no problems with the dogs or sniffling!
Nestled between the mighty Purcell and Rocky mountain ranges; I was born in Invermere and grew up in the small town of Fairmont Hot Springs BC, where I enjoyed all of what the great outdoors had to offer. A few of my favourite pastimes are hiking, skiing and occasionally swinging a golf club.
The eldest child of three to Patrick Roy and Janet Andrea Wilder, and the sister to Scott Patrick and Thomas Alexander; I have so many fond memories of the family adventures travelling near and far. I've enjoyed travelling so much, it has now turned into a life long passion of mine. I'm constantly searching for the next memorable adventure.
I attended Thompson Rivers University, in Kamloops BC, where I completed my Resort and Hotel Management diploma, then continued onto the University of Calgary where I acquired my Bachelor of Commerce degree. Living in Calgary, I took the path of many graduates and have been working in the energy industry over four years now. Not to forget to mention, this is where I met Craig. More on this later.
On my spare time I enjoy many outdoor activities such as the ones mentioned above, teaching yoga, spending time with my pooch Chloe- the ten year old wild Jack Russell and volunteering. I especially love volunteering when it comes to savings puppies. I can play and cuddle with so many amazing dogs that deserve a loving home. I would take them all home with me, if only I wasnt actually allergic to most breeds. I'm still contemplating on whether to throw caution to the wind and become an eccentric dog lady. A wedding gift? Donate some land to Craig and I, so we can have a dog rescue. I'm sure Craig will enjoy that... as he just smiles when I come home from cuddling so many rescue dogs sneezing and leaving mountains of used tissue around the apartment. You would love that on a continuous basis wouldn't you Craig?
I can't wait to celebrate this special event with all of you and start the next chapter of my life with you Craig. xo
